Minerals of Technology

Minerals of Technology, 2018

Installation
Southern Exposure

This installation traces the origins of our digital devices back to the Earth—specifically, to the minerals that power data processing, memory, and communication. Sourced through extractive industries with profound environmental and human costs, these materials form the unseen infrastructure of daily life, shaping how we connect, work, move, and feel.

Each mineral is presented with a double-sided card—pairing scientific data with cultural beliefs and metaphysical associations. In doing so, the work asks us to hold both the tangible and the symbolic, the industrial and the sacred.

By recontextualizing these materials, Minerals of Technology reveals the spiritual residue of our devices and invites a more embodied awareness of the extractive systems beneath our technological intimacy.

Originally installed as part of Centre for Emotional Materiality, Southern Exposure, San Francisco.
